«Turkish Airlines» announces title sponsorship of «Turkish Airlines Baltic Challenge Cup»

Turkish Airlines | 2018.11.08

This year, Turkish Airlines will come on board as the title sponsor of international ice hockey tournament, the Turkish Airlines Baltic Challenge Cup. The championship will host national teams from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Japan, Romania and Belarus, all competing in the historical city of Vilnius, Lithuania between 8-11th November, in the Vilnius Pramogu Arena.

The six teams will be divided into two subgroups: Group A, Lithuania, Japan and Belarus, and Group B, Latvia, Estonia and Romania. The ice hockey tournament was launched a few years ago by the Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian ice hockey associations whose goal was to create a tournament in which Baltic National hockey teams could participate during their preparatory cycle.

Flying to more countries than any other airline, this is the first year that Turkish Airlines will be title sponsor of the international ice hockey tournament, which the Star Alliance member airline has committed to sponsoring over the next two years.  The airline is passionately committed to the aspirational vision of sporting tournaments and their ability to bridge cultures and connect people, like the national flag carrier which connects 304 destinations in 122 countries.

In addition to the Turkish Airlines Baltic Challenge Cup, Turkish Airlines sponsors other sporting competitions in football, golf and tennis, to name just a few. With the opening of the Istanbul New Airport on 29th October 2018, the new home of Turkish Airlines, the five-star airline welcomes a new era of possibilities at the world’s largest international hub.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Aigars Kalvītis, President of Latvian Hockey Federation said: "We are very pleased that such a large and world-renowned airline as Turkish Airlines has become the main sponsor of the tournament. Turkish Airlines has a huge experience in supporting sports. We want the Turkish Airlines Baltic Challenge Cup with such support to become a high-level event across the Baltic area and its surroundings."

Harun Köse, General Manager of Riga Turkish Airlines, stated "As the proud flag carrier of Turkey, we are delighted to be title sponsor of the Turkish Airlines Baltic Challenge Cup which, by bringing people together, harnesses the power of the spirit of sports."

The next round of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Riga, Latvia at the Arena Riga in 2019.
