According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, in September 2024 the number of non-resident and resident visitors comprised 232.3 thousand, which is 11.7 % more than in September 2023. As compared to September last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 393.4 thousand, which is 6.9 % more.

In September 2024 non-resident arrivals at the tourist accommodation establishments accounted for 62 % or 144 thousand people, which is 16.6 % more than in September a year ago, but 16.2 % less than in September 2019 before the pandemic. The number of nights spent by non-residents, compared to September last year, has grown by 9 % and comprised 251.6 thousand. Non-residents on average spent 1.8 nights1 at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.9 nights in September last year).
The majority of non-resident visitors came from Lithuania (21.1 thousand), Germany (17.1 thousand), Estonia (12.9 thousand), United Kingdom (9.1 thousand), Poland (7.3 thousand), Finland (7.9 thousand), Spain (6.4 thousand), USA (6.2 thousand), Sweden (5.6 thousand) and Norway (4.8 thousand).
Most non-resident visitors were hosted in Riga – 76.5 %, Jūrmala – 7.4 %, Liepāja – 2.7 %, Mārupe municipality – 2.4 %, Sigulda municipality – 1.7% and Ventspils – 1.1 %.
In September 2024 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 88.3 thousand resident visitors, which is 4.5 % more than in September 2023 and 24.1 % more than in September 2019 before the pandemic. The number of nights spent by them comprised 141.8 thousand, which is a rise of 3.4 %, compared to September last year. Residents on average spent 1.6 nights at the tourist accommodation establishments (1.6 nights in September last year).
Mostly residents stayed in Riga (30.1 %), Jūrmala (9.2 %), Liepāja (6.2 %), Cēsis municipality (4.7 %), Kuldīga municipality (3.6 %), Daugavpils (3.2 %) and Sigulda municipality (3.1 %).
Average room occupancy rate of hotels and similar accommodation in Latvia was 46 % in September (a rise of 0.2 percentage points, compared to September last year), 60.2 % – in Riga (an increase of 1.7 percentage points, compared to September last year).
In Q3 2024 the number of visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 1 million, which is 10.5 % more than in Q3 2023. As compared to Q3 of the last year, the number of nights spent by visitors has risen by 6.3 % and comprised 1.8 million nights. Out of all visitors hosted 605.7 thousand or 59.7 % were non-residents, but 408.4 thousand or 40.3 % were Latvian residents.
In the nine months of this year, the number of non-resident and resident visitors comprised 2.1 million, which is 10.6 % more than in the nine months of 2023, however, it is 5.7 % less than in the nine months of 2019, during the time before the pandemic.
